London Theater Review: ‘The Threepenny Opera’ with Rory Kinnear

Born out of Germany’s economic meltdown in the 1920s, “The Threepenny Opera” puts the destitute and desperate onstage — a remarkable thing at the time. Rather than refresh its reality for our own financial crisis, director Rufus Norris and playwright Simon Stephens turn it into a (three)penny dreadful, as keystone cops chase red-striped robbers and… Read more »

5TH UPDATE, Saturday 11:40 PM: Tropical Storm Bonnie, the first of the year to threaten the U.S., will hit South Carolina by Sunday night. As such, distrib chiefs can’t use the weather as an excuse yet for what has been a lackluster Memorial Day weekend at the B.O.
The new titles — 20th Century Fox’s X-Men: Apocalypse and Disney’s Alice Through the Looking Glass  were both down today from their Friday returns, respectively -24% and -11%. Meanwhile, most of the holdovers…

Watch Robert Kirkman’s pilot for the Cinemax series OUTCAST dir by Adam Wingard here!!!

Your Child Is Probably Possessed Just Like This!

Hey folks, Harry here…  Robert Kirkman’s THE WALKING DEAD – just completely fucking owns me.   Love it, my dad loves it, the world loves it – and some folks don’t.   That’s fine.   To me, I’ll watch the show until it loses me and I’m nowhere near close to that point.   FEAR THE WALKING DEAD is a horse of a different color.   The last 4 episodes was like breathing Carbon Monoxide…  a slow poisonous death that I wish on nobody, and after the first two episodes of this season showed such promise.   But that Season finale made the suck of the 3 previous just feel like complete wasted suckass television and I wasn’t high on watching the next show from the mind of Robert Kirkman – and that just felt bogus to me.
Then a film/media friend of mine and I were talking about PREACHER which he hadn’t seen, and he was talking about how I had to fucking watch OUTCAST – and when I saw the pilot tonight as a watch via YOUTUBE, I put it on the big screen and Yoko & I gave it a stream.   FUCKING GREAT I SAY!
The pilot is directed by Adam Wingard of YOU’RE NEXT fame – and he kills it.   As we watched it Lightning Storm came a blowing into Austin, which was the best ambient sounds you could have for this.  So turn out all the lights – and here… giva  a look see…

See –

I am – Hercules!!
The origin of Hodor’s name was the invention of George R.R. Martin, who apparently revealed it to the “Game of Thrones” showrunners in a hotel room some time ago. (Does this mean all of Martin’s plans for future novels were disseminated to David Benioff and D.B Weiss verbally?)
Game of Thrones 6.6 FAQ
What’s it called? “Blood Of My Blood.”
Who’s responsible? Teleplay is credited to Bryan Cogman.
What says HBO? “An old foe comes back into the picture. Gilly (Hannah Murray) meets Sam’s (John Bradley) family. Arya (Maisie Williams) faces a difficult choice. Jaime (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) faces off against the High Sparrow (Jonathan Pryce).”

Last week. On “Game Of Thrones.”
* “I can still feel what he did in my body,” Sansa Stark explained to Peter Baelish.
* Arya witnessed an apocryphal season-one recap, then snuck backstage to gaze upon the stage-star she was assigned to murder.
* Not far from a tree bearing the face of Max Von Sydow, Bran witnessed the creation of The Night King.
* What is dead can never die.  We learned Euron has designs on the Khaleesi and that it is difficult to drown the Ironborn. Also, drier Greyjoys absconded with the Iron Islands’ best ships.
* Jorah Mormont confirmed he loves the Khaleesi and is turning to stone.
* “Do you remember what you heard that night when the sorcerer tossed your parts into the fire?” the red priestess asked Varys. “You heard a voice call out from the flames, do

The James Cameron Produced Robert Rodriguez Directed ALITA: BATTLE ANGEL has found its star!!!

Pieced together from a junkyard of the 25th Century…

Hey folks, Harry here…  This is one of those projects that is kinda pretty much legendary at this point for me.   James Cameron has been in control of this beloved MANGA property for ages.  Of all Cameron’s projects, this was always the one that Rodriguez envied most.  He’s been friends with Jim for a very very long time and while Robert never would go into detail, Cameron apparently showed him some sort of test – pre-AVATAR time that had Robert drooling WANTING to tell me, but knowing about the James Cameron Assassin team, he dared not.
When it got announced that Rodriguez was getting to take over this project, I was ecstatic.   Cameron’s announced slate of AVATAR films seems to be the passion that has gripped Cameron – and really I can’t fault him.  AVATAR came from his noggin entirely, this was always an adaptation of an epic MANGA series that could very well become it’s own franchise.   It is a very long tale indeed – and Rodriguez getting to work on something this rich with awesome, well…  So happy!

Our pals over at COLLIDER are saying that Rosa Salazar has secured the role of the titular junkyard badass, Alita.   You might remember her from THE MAZE RUNNER: SCORCHED TRIALS or INSURGENT.  I liked her role in SCORCHED TRIALS, but that other film series… honestly – I just can’t stand.  There’s something that rings completely wrong with me, but anyways, that’s not her fault, it’s the whole

“You fucked her in the garage?” Tonight could be the horniest episode of “Silicon Valley” to date, as most of the five core characters seem destined for romance. But not the confused Gilfoyle. Does Gilfoyle need sex? Anyway, Erlich engineers a glorious semen analogy, and much of the plot tonight hinges on the use of tabs vs. spaces.  If you know what I mean.
