Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. The Playlist has an interesting development for us fans of good-sounding things: Casey Affleck is going to reteam with his Ain’t Them Bodies Saints director David Lowery for a movie called The Old Man and The Gun, which will star Robert Redford.
I assume Redford will be “The Old Man” of the title and it might just be me, but I’d shit a brick of happiness if Affleck was playing “The Gun.” I imagine it a little like Eddie Valiant’s cartoon gun from Roger Rabbit.
Reality is that this is actually a real-deal movie and not just something ridiculous that only I would like, sadly, but it still sounds pretty great. It’s about an older career criminal who keeps at it even in his twilight years and a younger reporter who tracks him down.
Lowery recently worked with Redford on the Pete’s Dragon remake and will do another Peter movie for Disney (Pan, this time), but is looking to squeeze this smaller film out between the two.
That guy’s the real deal and I look forward to anything he makes, especially if that means we get another juicy role for Robert Redford.
What do you folks think?

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. AFM is gearing up which means get ready to hear about a ton of new films in development. Many of these films will never happen, but a good amount will sell foreign rights and actually start building their budgets at the American Film Market.
One of those titles is an adaptation of Greg King’s book SHARON TATE AND THE MANSON MURDERS, which is to be directed by Michael Polish and star Kate Bosworth as Tate.
It’s a sad story that most of us have heard by now, but if you don’t know it the very pregnant Sharon Tate, a rising star at the time, was one of the victims of the Manson Family’s murder spree. Her husband, Roman Polanski, was out of the country working when Charles Manson and his followers showed up to their house and killed all who were there.
Karina Longworth recently did a fantastic series on the Manson family for her podcast YOU MUST REMEMBER THIS. It’s an interesting, heartbreaking story. I’m not sure how much I want to see a dramatized version of it, but I understand the appeal.
Bosworth is a talented actress and this role will give her a lot to work with. Just be prepared for a big ol’ bummer of a movie should this one make it in front of cameras.

Scattered amid the lukewarm masala of musical comedy, romantic melodrama, and unsynchronized passions that is “Ae Dil Hai Mushkil,” there are teasing indications that the movie might have been better had it been more meta. Writer-director Karan Johar occasionally enlivens the dawdling song-and-dance with cheeky allusions to classic Indian films — including a spirited homage… Read more »
